Yesterday afternoon whilst trawling around the local shopping centre (yes, I totally trawl around the shops), I discovered the new Video Ezy Express vending machines. Well, it is and isn't a vending machine. For those of you who haven't seen them, they are similar to an ATM although, money doesn't pop out - a DVD does. So with their $2 opening special for the DVD vending machine I decided to give the machine ago.

Swipe card, select movie, enter email address and mobile phone number, hit 'buy' and out pops a DVD. Done. Easiest trip to hire out a video.

I rented The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, with apprehension that it was probably going to be a movie that my Nanna would love. It starred the likes of Judi Dench (James Bond), Maggie Smith (Harry Potter) and Bill Nighy (The Boat that Rocked), and I got to say, I actually really loved it. Maggie Smith's character was my favourite. I adore her as an actor and love her as Professor McGonogall. In this movie she plays an incredibly racists older English woman who has to have hip surgery. She is brilliant.

Righto. So I realised something incredibly pathetic tonight whilst over at my friend Sarah's place. I am the world's biggest wimp. I challenge everyone out there to find someone who is worse than me. It is more to do with when watching television, and not so much so in reality. Although there is one area I refuse to delve into because of utter terror however, I will discuss this a little further in this post.

So I thought, I would reflect on all the things that I find scary. Mainly, because I think you will all find it rather amusing. I am pretty sure Sarah's boyfriend found it more than a little amusing (the movie's I am scared of watching thing). Here goes...

Yesterday, to much excitement (on my behalf and I think Blake's too) we went the Perth Zoo. I love zoo's. It is like a completely far away escape in the middle of the city. The air is cleaner (mainly due to the crazy number of tree's) and it is just such a fun, relaxing place to hang out - not to mention the amazing animals.

Here are a few pictures from today. Apologise for none of me. Blake took one and it was well, a bit disheartening. Back to the gym I go :)

Aside from my trip in 2009 to Muse d'Orse in Paris whilst on Contiki, this is my second most exciting art experience to date. At Muse d'Orse I got to experience one of my favourite artisits - Van Gough. Oh Starry Nights. It was amazing, overwhelming and just totally awesome. So the other day when my friend Alyssa invited me to go and see the current exhibit at the Perth Gallery and I found out another favourite of mine was going to be showed (Picasso), I squealed and was there. So was Ruth and two other friends of Alyssa.

The exhibit, entitled Picasso to Warhol featured 14 of the modern art masters including, Pablo Picasso (obviously), Henri Matisse, Piet Mondrian, Constantin Brancusi, Fernand Leger, Marcel Duchamp, Giorgio de Chirico, Joan Miro, Alexander Calder, Jackson Pollock, Louise Bourgeois, Romare Bearden, Jasper Johns and finally Andy Warhol (again, obviously). I came out of the exhibition falling in love with some new artists and renewing my love for my old favourites.

One of my favourites was Picasso's self-portrait he did when he was about 20 years of age. I love the fact that it appears to heavily influenced by Paul Cezanne, particularly in comparison to his later, 'cubism' paintings. Cezanne is another one of my favourites. I thought it was awesome that we all had our favourite artisit's.

It was an amazing experience. One of the girls commented that it was quite eery to think that once upon a time (and realistically not that long ago), these paintings were painted by the world's most famous artists. Eery, but amazing. They look like they were painted yesterday and it felt incredible to be surrounded by them. Totally worth going to check out. Unfortunately, I didn't get a good shot of any of Andy Warhol's paintings. There was a group of performing arts students in the Warhol section when we went through there and so the only shots I have, have people dressed in black in the way.

If you want to go check out the exhibition out for yourself, it is showing at the Art Gallery of Western Australia until December 3.

P.S On our way home, Alyssa decided she wanted to pick some of the herbs from the communal gardens just next to the gallery. She looked like she was up to no good - as illustrated by the below pictures. It was a real laugh!!
Happy Saturday lovely people!

I am finally back to blogging and enjoying life again. Where have I been? It's a long story...

...well, actually that's a lie, it's not a very long story - I have been finishing my degree(s).

It was a crazy semester. To be able to finish on time I had to overload and ended up doing the equivalent of one full-time student and a part-time student (6 units baby!). It was hectic to say the least.

And now... its finished. Yay!

(Finito. Completed. Done FOREVER!!!)

So, here I am. Finished uni and unemployed (kinda). With all this spare time I have, I have decided to open an Etsy Store and re do my entire blog. It looks much prettier and cleaner me thinks (thoughts?). Etsy store is in the process of being stocked and that will be my baby until I find myself a full-time job.

I also did a few other things in between insanity and procrastination such as

With all this new found spare time, I have also decided that a few changes are necessary around here.

1. Tutorial page will actually feature 'tutorials'.

2. I want to start doing more regular posts about regular things on regular days.

3. I will be sponsoring other blogs more to get some more readership. Guest post on Living in Yellow was a major success.

So there you have it, a catch up on what's been happening in my little world.

Chat soon,

I have come to the conclusion that it was the two cups of tea I had this evening (yes I know that it is very sad that the caffeine from two cups of tea after 6pm keeps me awake but you haven't seen me drink wine yet). So my mind got distracted and I am now thinking about food. Specifically this vegetarian chilli con carne from Jamie Oliver's website
http:/\jamieshomecookingskills.com
. Not only are the recipes super tasty but they are so easy even my little big brother could do them (little big cos he is younger but 6'4").
So go check it out and I am going to attempt to sleep so I can dream about the food!

Lily and Gracehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04549185581771124547noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3998703718336532263.post-37681771137349621302012-08-23T00:04:00.000+08:002012-10-31T17:40:55.052+08:00Summer come at me!

[Source]

Follow this link to see why I cannot wait for summer. I have concluded that when I am engaging in the 'full treatment' (aka hair wash, shave legs and scrub shower) I am in my most unattractive state EVER.

Not only is my hair in some weird scraped up heap on top of my head with some strange coloured hair treatment in it and my legs are covered in my boyfriends shaving cream while I attempt to use my razor that it is so blunt it may as well be considered 'child-proof', I also have a set of teeth whitening trays in my mouth which allows a subsequent drool to appear. Following the shaving of my legs, I then conclude the whole routine in the most awful, unholy of positions as I attempt to scrub the corners of the shower at the floor.

The only plus of this whole 'look' (dear I say) is that should any creepy predator attempt to sexually assault me whilst I am in the shower, my unattractiveness at that very moment should send them running away.

What is your most unattractive moment of the day?
Lily and Gracehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04549185581771124547noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3998703718336532263.post-22984527658345329002012-08-22T08:00:00.000+08:002012-10-31T17:40:55.050+08:00Sleep time

Marley has taken to sleeping with her 'spare Tiger'. I bought her a little soft Tiger when I first got her, which she still has. Although, knowing how devastated she would be if Tiger got lost or eventually fell apart, she now has a spare - almost identical. This is how Marley sleeps with her Tiger(s). Time for us to go to sleep - Marley is on the bed, in her bed whilst Blake is away in Melbourne for training. And boy was it a decent distraction. I discovered Salme Sewing Patterns. And so, like any good citizen, I bought three for AUD$17.66 (US$18). Each pattern is simple and easily adaptable. What I also like about them is that Elisa (the creator of Salme Sewing Patterns) is only an email away if you get stuck!

So do yourself a favour, and if you have a slight interest in making pretty things, go and snap up some patterns! This beer (apparently the best beer he has ever had) is from his 21st birthday. He is now 28. Her photography and documentary skills are incredible and she seems to capture the most intimate and life changing moments with absolute precision. She recently traveled to Burma with her parents and 95 year old Harold Martin to visit the graves of his mates who he worked with on the Burma Thai Railway as prisoners of war in WWII.

Watch the video, it's only 2 and a half minutes.

[vimeo http://www.vimeo.com/41472136 w=400&h=300]
Lily and Gracehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04549185581771124547noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3998703718336532263.post-47605116872054667192012-07-21T05:18:00.000+08:002012-10-31T17:40:55.054+08:00Dreamy little windowI am back and in full action! I have been on two holidays and will update you all on them a little later. I am a terrible blogger and really need to work on this. I have been hanging out in "summer" for the past month and this return to winter has shocked my body. I cannot wait for the warmer weather (despite my body's total aversion to the sun and the heat).

So while I am stuck inside, praying for the warmer weather, I have decided to get my 'stuff' organised. This is partly because I visited a fortune teller the other day and he told me my bed was on the wrong wall and as such, the movement of my bed has completely messed with the bedroom layout and partly because I feel like a good throw out. I am a self confessed 'collector' (although my boyfriend's mum occasionally calls it 'hoarding' - I personally don't think I am bad enough to end up on the show) and feel like a good cleanse is necessary. After spending the day in bed today (month in summer and then sudden return to winter as resulted in the flu) I have decided that I will start the re-organisation with the window ledge.

Strange place to start I know but I am cool with that. I have always had an affinity with windows and dream of one day owning a house that has a massive bay window with a bench seat. It seems like the perfect place to drink tea and read gossip magazines. Sheer perfection.

So now, I will celebrate my love for windows with a collection of inspirations to give me something to dream about for this re-organisation process. But, nonetheless, I am back. And in the tropical location of Northern Queensland's Mackay. Compared to the current 2 degree Celsius that is gracing Perth presently, the 23 plus degrees here allows me to spend my days wearing shorts and t-shirts. Marley is here with me and she thoroughly enjoyed the sights on the drive home from the airport.

So what have I been up to during this past week spent in Mackay? Absolutely nothing - although clever me did decide to start a 1000 (yes one THOUSAND) piece puzzle despite my lack of puzzle building since about the age of 9. I am about half way through and although completely frustrated at the artist's need to use the same, featureless green throughout about half of the image, I am determined to finish.

Blake arrived here yesterday for a very well deserved break. On a trip down to Coles to get some 'necessities' (wine and Subway) we spotted the RSPCA fundraising to support local wildlife. And we met these little guys - two brush-tail possums. Some people refer to them as pests, I like to think that they are possible the cutest little things alive. Anyone else agree?

That seems to be all that is happening at the moment. I am curren!tly in love with these possums and feel that I need one. Just because.

Tomorrow we are off to see the SuperBoats in Mackay harbor. Essentially they are Formula One cars on the water. Talk about fast! Tonight is a family dinner for my little brother's birthday - he is 20! Cannot believe it.

Off to help Blake do some study. Exciting adventures ahead.

xx
Lily and Gracehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04549185581771124547noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3998703718336532263.post-59176299554094150952012-06-17T15:10:00.000+08:002012-10-31T17:40:55.061+08:00on the road againTalk about knackered! I'm sitting in Brisbane airport waiting for my connection to Mackay and dreading the day I decide I want children - one sleepless night and I am finished. Like completely, want to fall asleep with my face in my muffin tired. But I am excited! Excited to see the olds and just have a break.
Karma worked in a mysterious way this morning (1am this morning to be exact). Plane was full to the brim. But not one person seemed to sit down next to me as the passengers boarded. I automatically assumed the worst, that I would have the worst passenger next to me - the one who steals the arm rest, insists on stretching every minute, makes various bodily noises etc. But no, next minute I see they are pulling the stairs away and locking up the doors. I scored the only two empty seats on the plane next to me boo ya!
So I curled up and had two hours of glorious, crappy sleep - instead of known.
Must make sure to keep the good karma going and do something nice for someone today (after a nap of course).

Lily and Gracehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04549185581771124547noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3998703718336532263.post-74151881910830565842012-06-06T05:10:00.000+08:002012-10-31T17:40:55.065+08:00Absolute absence.

Sorry for my serious lack of presence on line these past couple of weeks - study has kind of taken over my life. Seriously. I am eating sausage rolls for breakfast and consuming protein shakes and Red Bull as though I have a product endorsement from them. For dinner tonight, I had a ham sandwich and a a carrot stick. Totally normal right?

Photo above is from my afternoon trek to uni yesterday. I went there at about 3pm after watching three movie's. My brain went on holiday for the morning, needless to say I deserved it. Sun streaming through the buildings, clouds and trees made me think about how much I have actually grown to love this campus despite my acute avoidance of it whenever possible.

One exam down today. Quietly confident about my performance. That is a rarity. Next one is tomorrow and again I am allowing my brain a tiny break this evening.

Alright, best get back to it. Just thought I would say hi.

Night xx

Lily and Gracehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04549185581771124547noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3998703718336532263.post-50508701399475172012-05-31T02:24:00.000+08:002012-10-31T17:40:55.057+08:00A day of study
Today was my third day of proper studying - my brain did die three hours in. So in order to avoid complete brain explosion, Marley and I went to the park. It looked a little bit like this.

I was also recently introduced to a website called 8tracks. This site is essentially a students music heaven! Well it could be anyone's heaven, however, the music is free to stream, thus, poor students heaven.

May two current favourite playlists these two.

[8tracks width="200" height="322" playops="" url="http://8tracks.com/mixes/768098"] [8tracks width="200" height="322" playops="" url="http://8tracks.com/mixes/791991"]

Both of them are super cheesy but I love them. I have been studying amazing well whilst listening to the music. I think it has helped that there are a lot of instrumental cover pieces rather than instrumental and voice - when someone is singing it makes me want to sing.

I apologise for the random changes that are happening to my blog. As a reward for studying today, I am giving it a bit of a reshuffle.

Hope you enjoy my playlists and have a lovely rest of the day!

xx

Lily and Gracehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04549185581771124547noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3998703718336532263.post-13447685836207740652012-05-29T04:13:00.000+08:002012-10-31T17:40:55.046+08:00On the home straight
Today I began studying for my second last set of exams at uni. I remember counting when I had 36 exams to go until I graduated (second semester of my first year) and now I am into single digits - 8 to go! I begin my first one next Tuesday and thought that I would pull together some motivation to power through these exams.

So this is what I came up with :)

The above one is my new desktop background. I am giving new things a go this year - next month I will be giving up sugar (artificial & cane) and using other natural low GI sweetners instead such as honey.

AND in other news, a winner has been named for the name the squirrel comp. Ruth from Join me Ruthie scored the winning name with Eugene (I promise it was all fair - boyfriend picked the name and he has no idea what I blog about - thank goodness!). The Bluebird Vintage bangle and tea cosy is heading your way!

BUT, I have a second winner too. Katie Ek decided on Avo and to celebrate the launch of my little Etsy store early next month, I shall be sending a tea cosy over your way too! YAY!

So lovelies, keep an eye out for my little store. I shall be linking it up on here when it is LIVE!

Night all xxx
Lily and Gracehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04549185581771124547noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3998703718336532263.post-91155661176297705332012-05-23T05:09:00.000+08:002012-10-31T17:40:55.067+08:00Bluebird Vintage
If you go down to Cambridge street, you're sure of a big surprise.

If you go down to Cambridge street, you're better be in disguise.

For every bear that ever there was, will gather there for certain,

because you will find down there a shop called Bluebird Vintage!

(Think of the Teddy Bear's Picnic song - lame I know, but awesome at the same time).

Bluebird Vintage is quite possibly the coolest shop in Perth. I actually have to restrain myself from visiting it out of fear of going broke. I discovered it a little over a year ago on my way home from the dentist and the residual local anaesthetic soon wore off once I entered this amazing little shop.

This shop is so beautifully presented in such a way that despite the sheer volume of cruios and objects, clothing and critters, everything has an absolutely perfect place. Run by Deb and Steven, the love for Bluebird Vintage and the history that each piece has is evident within the care and creative displays that is given to each object. Deb herself was more than happy to polish and clean some little Indian/Turkish silver containers that I had found during an earlier trip to Margaret River in the south-west.

Featured on We Love Perth in November last year, the store feels as though you are entering a home. Racks of clothes, shelves of cameras and a myriad of taxidermy animals leaves you wanting to see every possible item within the store. Every visit leaves you finding new and interesting objects that were probably there on your first visit, but you managed to miss.

How cool is the fox? He has some serious attitude.

All in all, you got to let this shop speak for itself. If you live in Perth, pop down to Bluebird Vintage 288 Cambridge Street Wembley. I bet that you will not leave without buying something. If you don't live in Perth, move here or come on holiday. I promise you will not regret it.

As a special give away for Lily&Grace readers and because I am excited about my guest post over at Living in Yellow, I have this gorgeous teal snake skin bangle from Bluebird Vintage to give away, along with a tea cosy made by me (I will be opening up an Etsy store sometime next month to show case them).

All you gotta do is give this little guy/girl a name. We took part in all sorts of things from learning how the therapy is implemented in special needs schools, Indigenous communities and from a personal and therapeutic perspective.

One of the most interesting things I learnt was visual journaling. Until today, I had never really attempted to do a visual journal or even a page since the conference. I am not sure why. Time maybe? However, today I felt like a just needed to do it. So I did. I found that for an hour, I just sat and thought about my day and what I had done. I thought about the different things I had learnt (I like to learn new things everyday - be it about myself, Blake or just the world around me) and I just reflected. It was a very calming and relaxing process and I now feel ready to tackle the crazy week ahead.

So I thought I would share my very first page with you today (its nothing special, just what sort of came out). I am going to try and do a page every few days to keep my creative juices flowing and also just reflect on the days past.

For some videos on how to get started, have a look at Teesha Moore or head over to Daisy Yellow to get the 101 on Art Journaling

For some inspiration, go have a look at visual artist Amber Gibbs. It looks a little like this. Pretty amazing stuff. Maybe one day I can be this cool :)

Lily and Gracehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04549185581771124547noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3998703718336532263.post-49090961509650571382012-05-20T21:20:00.000+08:002012-10-31T17:40:55.056+08:00Bikram yoga.
Picture this.

Wednesday evening last week. 14 degrees Celsius outside. Shorts and a singlet. One hour. One 40 degree celsius room.

This is Bikram Yoga. I experienced my first class after my over-enthusiastic mind (who I am not talking to any more) convinced me that it would be a good idea. I was at the tail end of my icky flu and I must admit that the class kicked that flu to a place of no return, however the process was torture!

I started out looking relatively normal and finished looking like this

(That is my lovely friend Ruth who invited me along - she looked like a pro doing it)

Granted, I am still smiling but inside I am still melting. The ads for the class make it look like this, which I could deal with

(this is not an actual picture from the website, just what I imagined it would be like)

However, after the first five minutes and realising that the most appropriate position to be in during the standing poses was sitting, I began to resemble a poster that illustrated the warning signs of heat stroke.

Realistically, the class looks more like this

All in all, I think I will attempt another class. I think my biggest problem was in my effort to drink 3 litres of water before attempting the class, I forgot to eat. Big mistake. So next time, lots of food and water during the day.

Next attempt is on Wednesday. Wish me luck!

For people who live in Perth, I did the class at Bikram Yoga Joondalup where they have a 10 day unlimited pass of $20.

Lily and Gracehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04549185581771124547noreply@blogger.com0
